Blocking lower vents on AquaPod 12 gal

Can anybody give me some suggestions on blocking the two lower vents in the 12 Aqua?
Better to block from the front or back? Underwater putty, just fill in the slots? Acrylic covering glued?

To have the skimmer work more effectively.
It doesn't skim effectively with these two vents open for water to flow through. I do not use the sponge. I use filter floss.

Oh...I would use something that could be removed later if you want to change the setup. Acrylic may be the answer.
