So my first fish died (only been in hobby since Jan).

Was making some changes to the tank, so I had moved all the fish to a temp. 10 gallon, came back 10-15 mins later and there he was dead on the ground. He must have jumped out, he was my favorite too

Sorry for your loss! I'd recommend buying a rubbermaid tote with lid for a temp holding tank. I have a ~25gal one that I got for less than $10. I always keep the lid on when I move fish out of the main tank.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish. I don't know how people keep open top tanks. Most of my fish would be rug jerky if I tried it. Live and learn. Maybe you could use a piece of cardboard as a temp top on a temp tank.
