cichlids in 20 gallon

what are some good small cichlids that I can have 2 or more of in a 20 gallon tank beside rams? any good African cichlids that are colorful?

Yellow labs would be fine.you could do 1 male and 4 females.

I'd look into the various shelldweller species.

I would go with kribensis or german blue rams.


If you want yellow labs, you would definitely need more hiding spaces which includes more rocks that are cave looking.

If you want a community tank, look at dwarf cichlids like apistogrammas, kribensis, nannacara, laetacara, and discrossus.

Now that I think about it, I have a couple of the fish in my sig in a 20g.

could I put a couple of Lamprologus ocellatus with one other small cichlid? what could the other one be?

Well if you're doing shellies you're going to want it to be a shellie only tank.
