Hello,

I was looking into ordering a 250g tub of seachem safe instead of a 500ml bottle of seachem prime... the seachem safe should last to dechlorinate 62,500gal of water at the rated dose, which is 100mg per 25gal of water to detoxify 1ppm chloramine and 1ppm chlorine. The dose for seachem prime is 5ml per 20gal, so around 5,000 gal from a 500mL bottle. I was curious to see how much was chlorine and chloramine was actually in my water, so I could use less or more dosage as needed..

So I searched and found my water provider's water report. Im my case, CSU (Colorado Springs Utilities).

It looks like our water is actually pretty nice..
avg 0.45ppm chlorine
zero chloramine

So, in reality, I could use half the dose of prime and safe, right?

Here's the water report: https://www.csu.org/CSUDocuments/waterqualityreport2013.pdf (look at page 16)

What are you guys' water reports like?

Ours are not so detailed. They use both and don't really say. The chloramine they just say is used for places further away. But reading between the lines I got the impression this may vary. My lfs is convinced the water does get treated differently or varies from time to time but nothing confirmed.

Is half ing the dose really worth it? I overdose just for a piece of mind, never really know what's going on with water. If they are working on pipes or flushing systems than those values you've read can change quick..
