Do you think capping it with sand would help?

I really don't know. As I said before I haven't used that substrate. It seems to me that if it is what is raising the ammonia that a sand cap wouldn't do any good because the ammonia will still leach out. But that is a guess on my end maybe some one else can help on that one.

OK. Ill experiment a little and see what happens. Ill make sure to keep this thread updated
