Debris removing filter for QT

We're in the process of QT'ing a purple tang. Right now, the only "filter" we have in there is a one of those sponge/bubble type filters. Unfortunately, the thing doesn't remove debris from the tank. We're tyring to feed minimally, but the tang tears apart nori on a clip and we constantly fight to siphon it out through an airline hose. Anyone have suggestions for good filter to pull this floating mess out of a 20gal tank?
