Diy reactor questions

Just built a Rex grigg reactor and wanted to double check that I did everything correctly. I used a 1 1/4 inch 2 foot PVC pipe with the intake at the top and the outflow at the bottle with the co2 connection about 3 inches down. It's been about 30 minutes and I'm still getting lots of bubbles. How long does it take to purge the air out of the system?

I flipped it over to get the air out and the co2 bubbles are shooting out of the outflow. Can someone help me figure out what I did wrong.
