Can anyone ID this little guy? My 10 year old had the best time catching these little fish with a tiny bite of shrimp on a line tied to his fingers in knee deep water.

Not African pompano. Sorry. Just a pompano- popular game fish!

Fish are friends not food!

Definitely not a dogfish/mudshark. They have a very sharp spike in front of their 2 dorsal fins. Looks more like a black tip reef shark, but I only ever get to see mudsharks/ dogfish, so I know little.

Based on the position of the dorsal fin relative to the pectoral fins, I'm guessing it's a juvenile spinner shark (Carcharhinus brevipinna).
