Yea baby!:brows:
Found the same in the yellows 40b also!!
Can't tell if the eggs I had yesterday are still there or only bad ones??
I have seen these fish(sneaky they think) move the good eggs leaving only the crap behind..possibly still a little natural parenting still left in them??
Hoping there are eggs still somewhere in there!
Getting the other 3 @10g all set up so I can pull the other 6 from the 40.
I got get some of these guys to hatch/survive.:thanks:
I have NO FRY under 1 month old at this time(beside aprox 600 pearl gouramis!)

Well thats awsome, dude. all the belly draggers on my end are swimming good now. Ive got more fry than i first thought?. Theyre chasin food down and look healthy as can be... We're makin strides amigo.

These lil fry are busy as all heck. Still curious abt the size difference thing in the batches, but i have a theory as to why. Both pairs have already layed eggs again!?!

Nice!(y)
I can't explain the difference in size...

But I know if they want the fish can spawn every week almost!

Keep up the good work !!

2 sets of eggs this am.
One from a pair in their own tank and another from the yellow tank.
Both were on pot or pot bottom so were moved to a 10g with MB to be artificially hatched.
Hoping this may help me out.

Ok another set of eggs into the the hatching tank!
My bad on accounting but this makes 2 from the Poppa Jayhawk rams!
The first set was not from the yellows.
So Poppa do the wigglers just fall off the tray and hang on bottom?
I think there were a few wigglers under the tray and near the pot.
A good amount of both of the first set are not fertile or are going to fungus even with 1+ drop of MB per gallon.
But I do see some wigglers and this is only first try at artificial for me.

Also rearranging this week and 'retired' 5 of my oldest GBR to my 180!
I actually have rams in my DT!
They are well over a year old and have been in ro until yesterday!

And the clowns are ok with them? I don't think they are very happy being out of ro but so is life. Are these retired fish one's you raised or bought?

Yep thats exactly what hsppens. Then theyll be belly draggers. Then lil swimmers. But you know that. The idea of the upside down try is to let them fall away from bad eggs or bad hatches and fungus. They drop down to a perfectly clean bare bottom. Congrats on the first try.

These are fish I have bred and raised myself.
They have been in a 40b or 5/10 g all their life!
The clowns don't care who is in the 180.
Every one to them are just visitors!
So far as the water , I breed all in ro still but have my 75 full of GBR on tap.
Yours came from my tap tank.
I just have never had luck in my 180 with the original I fish I bought years ago.
That is why my GBR went into fish room and I started breeding them by chance!

Big thanks Poppa!(y)
Gonna get this right!!

I only saw a couple on the bottom from the tray I think.
Maybe 10(I didn't really count).
Saw a few wigglers in pot also.
Kind of thought they were early but I may be a day slow?

A lot of fungus on eggs.
Should I use more then 1 drop MB per gallon?

Honestly, i do. I pour a good amount. Dont measure. Did you give the eggs a dip before the tank?

Artificial hatching is working very well!(y)

The rams seem to be 'ramping' up on production in the last week with 7 different sets of eggs.
One was eaten by the parents on day 1 or 2(trying to make sure they are fertile before I remove), and one was not to be removed as it was laid on silicone!
The other 5 sets have all had some hatch!!!(y)
But way more ROT then belly draggers?

I am wondering like Andy if it is food or even the water in my case?

It is easiest for me to just change the water parameters the eggs are laid in so I may give this a try(seems never ending??)

Also thinking of getting most rams into dorm setups again and just pulling the eggs to separate hatching tanks.

Will have a few empty tanks today after trip to LFS with pearls and GBR,so trying to come up with a system the fish will like.

If anyone can find info on the water parameters for GBR(like TDS....) I would be interested as I keep making my water in 'experimental' levels??

3 more sets of bad eggs today ,all still with the parents!

TDS in tanks around 140??
Just cut that in half(hopefully) with water change of NON remineralised ro.

They really are starting to breed way more often now(like weekly!).

I read Gillie mention the wet season(or whatever it is in SA),and really believe these guys are warming up for the next 4 month run!!

Anyone want to guess how they know??

I sure hope I can get things in better order before this season goes by?
I think I have enough of time to figure more out and get better results.
Poppas Jayhawks rams eggs hatched 100%(I believe , on the silicone again:banghead:) in the 40B with all their friends!
Going to move the others today possibly?

Anyone find a specific TDS for these guys????
Even Yunite says tap water but we know everyones water is different,so this doesn't really help me.

Here's hoping I grasp the artificial hatch technique as they are hatching even with whatever is the issue(the 10% that don't go to rot!).
This really leads me in the water direction more then food or breeding lines.

It's been over 2 years with these guys and I feel like a newb!:ermm:
The challenge is probably what keeps me going with these guys?
It sure isn't a never ending supply of bad eggs!

I have found a wealth of info on the water parameters from various collection sites in the wild. And in the early breeding efforts of a few respected icthyologists. Their trips ranged from mid/late 70s to 83.

Horst Linke & Wolfgang Staeck. I have their book which has been out of print for a loooong time.

Title is:
American Cichlids I
Dwarf Cichlids

May be able to get it via the interwebs. I'm tryin to figure out if i can snap pics of the "ram" section or how to type several pages of info. Lol.

Found it used(in good condition) for like $12 including shipping!
Is it really going to add to my base info?
Does it mention TDS or specific water parameters?
