Hi all,

I just got a really good deal on a green spotted puffer at my LFS. They've been keeping him in complete freshwater and I'd like to bring him up to 1.010. My question is how quickly should I adjust the amount of salt in the water?

Thanks.

Regards,
Ken

Slowly raise the salinity up .001 each week. It also depends on how big the puffer is, the bigger and older it is the higher salinity it needs or can stand.

Raising the sg up too high too soon can either kill your puffer or a lot of the beneficial bacteria.

Absolutely--this is the route I used for converting a FW tank to BW once I had all the tank mates. Make sure you are using marine salt and not aquarium salt.
