Please tell me what signs the fish will show whan the water is too hot

For one thing, the oxygen concentration goes down when the water heats up. I'm not sure what the first behavior symptoms are. Many fish will adapt to higher temperatures if it goes up slowly. What types of fish are we talking about? What temperature?

I don't have air conditioning, I often see mysterious fish deaths in summer, with no obvious symptoms presenting first.

Well I have one damsel in the tank and it looks like he is breathing very quickly

Have an air pump? What is the ammonia level?

Thermometers can be found for very cheap... In a reef tank, you'll want your temp around 82 or so, give or take a degree.

Don't forget to adjust slowly if you're out of spec. A degree or two per day.
