These is 3 ways to add fish to the tank

First - fishles cycle

Second - fish in cycle

Third - you don't cycle you add fish with a small bioload (neon tetras, ottos etc) with lots of live plants as they absorb the ammonia no2 and no3.

My question how many plants will I need if I do the third one with 6 cardinal tetras?

It depends on a lot of factors. The short answer is "As many as you can get in there". Plant the tank densely and give it an ample light supply (co2 would be preferable as well) and go from there.

Even then it's no guarantee, but it definitely helps.

Okay I'll go for plants like stem plants. I have 4,200 K of light in there and there doing fine they grow pretty fast.
it was just an idea really, it's either add some tetras tomorrow or on Saturday or wait a few months and buy a proper filter.
The one I have now is for a 50L and my tank is 100L I just simply used a 50L until I could get my hands on appropriate one.
But yeah I understand there will be no guarantee this will work
