Hi!

I have a very strange problem with my new external in-line heater in my aquarium: Hydor ETH 200W

Every time I turn it on, the pH jumps from 6,7 till almost 12-13. Can anybody tell me why is this happening? The ph meter is for 100% working good, I have checked it with other liquids.

The ph jumps just after I turn on the heater. Have you heard about such situation?

perhaps the heater is leaking an electrical charge into the water and throwing off the PH readings, should be easy to test for if you have a volt meter, just check from tank to ground with everything off for a base reading and then with just the heater on for an actual reading

Ok, I try to check it like you said. Thanks for a tip.

And what can I do in order to stop such electric charge leakage into the water?

replacing the heater is the only thing I know of as they are non repairable as far as I know

Thank you for your help. I have changed the heater and bought a new one and now is everything good :) Now I can start thinking about next aquarium ; )
