I have a pair (male and female) gourami (paradise) in my 30 g tank, all of which parameters are in excellent condition. The female, normally perky and all over the place, is resting in the back on the gravel, only swimming up to get air (as these guys do) and then swims back down to the same spot. The male is making a nest??? But I don't think that has anythng to do with her......

Could she be sick possibly? She's still eating well.....

Is it possible he is attacking her? There appears to be a nick on her bottom fin

Yes, it is possible he is attacking her. But, don't jump to conclusions yet. That might not be the issue at all. :)
How big is the tank? What other tankmates? How long has it all been set-up? Any other symptoms?
Do you have a test kit to measure the exact water parameters? Thats the best way to know whats going on. :)
