I recently purchased this fish from a local petsmart thinking it was just a regular jack dempsey cichlid as the label at the store said, but after posting some pics some people have said he's a hybrid. If anyone could help me figure out what he is I would greatly appreciate it!

IMO i think it is not a hybrid just a plain colored JD. You are aware these are not community oriented fish.
Yes I know, I got the JD because tomorrow I am giving all the community fish in that tank to a friend for his daughter. All that will be with him is a pleco a raphael catfish and a rainbow shark.

I have a JD and mine is much darker in color with more vibrant teal colors but I think mine is the opposite sex as the one you have pictured. But otherwise it looks EXACTLY like my JD.

I'm assuming this was a fish that someone brought into the store because it had outgrown its tank or some other reason because all the other JDs were only a couple inches.

I think they solved the mystery on the thread that originally started this. I think it may be a Jack Dempsey/ Red Terror mix.

I'm not sure if it is a hybrid anymore... Its stripes and spots are fading a little and the blue spots are spreading and getting brighter. I think it may have still been stressed from the store and the move to my aquarium.

Also I have been looking around the internet and found a number of images/videos of juvenile JDs that also have faint stripes and a red tinge to the tail and fins.
The fish in this video is very similar to mine except it has no fin extensions:
