Jewel Cichlids

Ok, for the first time ever my female Jewel has gone a deep red. Is her behavior going to change now that she wants to mate? I only have one other Jewel in the tank and I don't know whether it's a male or a female and it seems to have no interest in mating with her.
Anything special I need to do for her?

The only thing to do is keep an eye out for bad behavior, or mating behavior!

If you look at the dorsal fin, it should be fairly obvious. The male has a much higher fin with a pointier end, whereas the female should be more rounded at the tip.

Also the male is alot more colorful, blue specs and such. whereas the female is more red in color.
