How can i tell if my cichlid is about to have babies? It has been acting strange lately. Made a burrow and below its mouth looks like its bulging. How can I tell?

It could just be holding eggs. Wait a couple weeks and you will be able to see the babies eyes when the mother is opening and closing her mouth. Then she will let them out once in a while, usually when its dark. If there are other fish in the tank, especially other cichlids, it will be hard for them to not be food. good luck

Is it eating? Alot of the time the holding female will quit eating.. you might want to consider quarantining the fish (to keep others from bothering her and the babies once she lets them go..)
