I have 2 Peppered Corydoras. Used to have 4 but lost two. (They were approx 7 years old they died separately 6 months or so apart so assuming old age).

I know that Corydoras require a small group for comfort so need to buy some more. My question is:

I have seen many variations and more attractive looking Corydoras. If I purchase eg 4 more from two additional (sub) species (2 + 2) will they then socialise and therefore satisfy the requirement for a small group ?

Thanks in advance.

they won't form as tight of a schoal as same species cories will, but they definitly hang out and chill together. I have mixed cories in my 46 gallon - they are doing great.

Whether as individuals or shoals, Cories will prefer their own type to a different type. Two shoals (4+)(e.g. Panda vs Peppered) will interact together some of the time, but will spend the majority of their time as individual shoals, like two groups of office workers that get together for lunch everyday. Individuals or pairs etc, will likely spend much more time together but not have the same degree of interaction as a type specific shoal, e.g. 2 Pandas, 1 Bronze and a sailfin vs 5+ Skunks.....
