What's the BPS for the CO2? Looks like an air stone from the pic (lots of bubbles).
On the left side are bubbles shooting out of the powerhead? That may be counterproductive with the CO2 injection (CO2 loss via surface agitation). You might consider shutting off the air injection on the powerhead and mount the ceramic diffuser in the corner below the powerhead for better CO2 distribution.
Otherwise, nice looking setup there.

It's optional. The roots will find their way to the substrate regardless. But if you did bury it, it might give you more of the carpet effect (where you only see leaves and not stems and roots).

Weird how the spectrum during this time of the cycle makes the substrate look pink.
Plant growth is really evident in this pic.

The tank with the 24/7 has black sand. It looks dark. However, the RCS "glow" and look redder in the evenings.
