I have a mesh bag of aragonite sand in the tank, not in the filter. Do I still need to keep it there or not? LMk. Thanks for all your help.

As long as you maintain a healthy water change schedule it shouldn't be necessary. Pwc's will restore the alkalinity to the water and hopefully hold the pH steady. If you continue to see drops or crashes...then it'd be worth considering keeping it buffered
