As with everything one does for the first time, hindsight is 20/20. We've all "been there, done that " But now you know and have the experience and if you ever do decide to do it again below ground, you know what NOT to do.I've learned A LOT building this pond. The next one will definitely be above ground, but I'm committed to finishing this monster now. It's almost full! I'm back filling behind the stones under the liner to bring the dirt up to their level. I should have dug into the ground to accomplish this, but it's too late for that now!

You might as well overfill it to see where the low spots are and where the water goes after it seeps past the rocks. Because this is going to happen after a big storm. I have a small pond near my house and it has a low point that drains water AWAY from the house.
