Need help with 55 gal tank!

Tank update!
Okay, I just did a water change (about 20% as I was getting water everywhere!). I then tested the water for the second time and this is what i got:
pH = 7.6 (same as last time)
ammonia = 2.4 (higher than last time)
NitrIte = 0.1 (same as last time)
NitrAte = less than 5 ppm (same as last time)
I vacuumed a little bit but there is still a ton of fish poo in the gravel. I hope that is okay :? So is my tank cycling like it should be? It seems as though things are going rather slow.
