If we are upgrading tanks and need to add more rock/gravel, should be put the old stuff on top or bottom of the new stuff? Let me know your opinion and why... thanks!

Mix it up or just do whatever you think looks best. I'm gonna say bottom though, I don't think either way is much different, just bottom seems like there it could work out better.

Thanks Conan! I need the old gravel for the "good bacteria", right?

BTW, my son has two female hooded rats, 8 months old, Tipsy and Trixie. This is our first rat experience and I absolutely love them! I never would've guessed that about a rat!

The old gravel should have some beneficial bacteria, I had an idea that putting it on the bottom might help it spread quicker to the new gravel, but beats me.

Mix it up! As long as the old gravel and new are the same type and color, mixing would be your best bet, get the bacteria everywhere faster. and you can use the opporutnity to wash the old fish waste outta the old gravel.
