I'm getting a 20 gallon sometime within the next few weeks. I currently have a 5 gal, stocked with 1 female betta and 2 cories (unsure of sex.)

I researched and found cories need a school of their species. Once my cycling is done, I'm going to switch all my fish to the 20 gal and put my baby betta in the 5.

I was wondering how many cories can I have in a 20 gallon with my betta?

I'd go with no more than 15. Be sure to get a soft substrate as they like to dig through it for food. 7 Corys work fine with a 10g, so 14 to 15 along with a Betta should work with a 20g.

Thank you! I'm gonna go with 7 just because I know they like to school and I heard that's the minimum.

I've read that anywhere form 3-4 is the minimum. I have 4 in my 29 gallon and they're pretty active in the afternoons and early evenings. They don't seem stressed at all.
