New tank

So I started a tank about 3 weeks ago and my tank has done nothing cycling wise. The ammonia hasn’t gone up, it stays at a constant .50. The nitrite stays at 0 and he nitrate stays at 5. I got live rock from my cousin but could it be dry rock that I got since it’s not doing anything? What should I do????

Did you add an ammonia source? I’m a fan of a cocktail shrimp myself, but once ammonia is presented it should rise. If it does not, then the rock your cousin provided already has the established beneficial bacteria you are trying to build up during a cycle.

I can add an ammonia source. I read some stuff about curing live rock and I thought I just leave it in there and wait. I can add a raw shrimp to it.
