First, my water parameters are good. No Ammonia and nitrate cycle is done. All that was done before I bought my first fish. He is the only guy in the tank right now.

He had a lot of caves and plants to hide in, but he is developing black patches everywhere. Water is 78 degrees.

I want to get him tank mates, but scared right now due to his discoloration issue. I didn't even know they were considered highbreeds. Is that the issue maybe? Stress due to no tank mates?

Thanks for the help!

Pictures of the fish and one showing the entire aquarium?

Have you done a water change on the tank?
Did you dechlorinate the water?

I have a water dechlorinater product I use. Yes I do water changes. As I stated all the test checked out good.

For some reason, I can't get pictures to upload anymore. Is there a way to delete my old attachments to upload new ones? Says I exceeded my limit. :p

I have the same issue. Take the photo and add it to an album on your profile then post the link(s) here for us to see. (y)

( There's more than one way to skin a cat. ;) ;) )

A video should help if pictures don't work. Upload videos to YouTube, then copy & paste the link here. If you use a mobile phone to film the fish, hold the phone horizontally (landscape mode) so the footage fills the entire screen and doesn't leave black bars on each end.

Did you do a water change on the day the fish went black or the day before it went black?

Didn't think to just use my reddit account.

Also, day before he went black. He has been in the tank for one full week now.

Keep in mind that there are many color forms of the Parrot cichlid so this appears to be just a color coming through. He may have been stressed in the tank it was in before so these colors were suppressed.

I figured that might be the case. He is getting friendly, following my finger and coming to say hi. I'd figured if he was really sick, he wouldn't be swimming around so much.
