You could run an air powered sponge filter in your tank and when the power goes out switch it to an Azoo Battery Backup Air Pump. It'll put out enough flow to run a Hydro and run for 10 hours. The Azoo puts out 0.15 cfm of air at 30" and a Hydro needs 0.05 cfm to work. Only bad thing about the sponge filter is it'll take 2-3 weeks to get bacteria built up in it.
With a sponge filter you'll get the best of both worlds, you'll get biological filtration and aeration.
