My ryukin has a curved fan on his right at the rear. Is this normal? I don't think I got him that way, might be do to stress or water parameters. He also has swim bladder disorder. I've tried peas, changing more than half the water to nitrates low, did half yesterday, maybe il do the other half today, maybe that will help. It is also hard to decorate the 75g with him not swimming well. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

I have a male Black Moor with bad swim bladder issues as well. Peas did not work for him. I started making my own gel food about six months ago. Although he still is an awaked swimmer he has improved greatly. You can find a variety of recipes on line and there are even tutorials available on you tube. It is super easy to make.

Hi! What are your exact water parameters for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate & ph? Does he have tankmates/how many/what type? What do you normally feed? Some more info will help us to help you better! :)

Water parameters

Ammonia is always .25 but my hang on ammonia test says 0. I have ammonia in my tap water. Nitrite 0, nitrate 20, Ph is 8.2 but have driftwood to lower it. 3 black moors, 3 telescopic eye, 1 common, 2 ryukin. Water temp is 70. But trying to keep it at 75.

Water parameters 2

I feed my fish frozen peas well thawed, veggie flakes for kelp and spirulina and fiber. Granules for their color, seaweed, feed them once every couple days. I have Medgold, immune pellets, romaine lettuce.

Thanks. Il check it out. Never made gelbased

Do you have a liquid test kit? Those stick-ons are even less reliable than strips which are inaccurate at best. I suspect your ammonia may be much higher. 8 fances in a 75g is overstocked- 6 might be manageable with a heavy water change schedule (no less than 50% 2x wk). The common needs a 75g to himself and pushes your stocking capacity to an extreme. With this many fish, its not surprising that you have ammonia present at all times. A cycled tank would eat through the ammonia in your tap in less than a few hours so this is not even an issue.

Poor water quality should be the first issue that needs to be addressed in trying resolving buoyancy issues in fancies. Next is diet- I would strongly recommend switching everyone to a gel food diet along with daily veggies. Ill post a link for easy recipes. Addressing your stocking situation will solve your ammonia issue (along with big water changes with a good conditioner such as Prime). A temp of 70 is fine for these guys and I would not be concerned with adjusting it. Please ask if you have any questions!! :)

My tank is not overcrowded, I have 9 fish not 8, I do use prime and stability, I do 50% water change once a week, ryukins get sb cause of their camel hump, My ammonia is .25, my fish are used to it and they don't have ammonia poisoning, goldfish are dirty fish and .25 is nothing. My new tank is cycled and ammonia is .25. I will try gelbased. Goldfish digestion is better at 74 degrees. My fish are active. Im very dedicated to making them healthy and happy. I will keep doing things my way but thanks

You asked for help with your fish and that is what is being offered. Your tank is overstocked and not properly cycled. Addressing your stocking situation would solve your ammonia issue. Fish do NOT 'get used to' ammonia exposure. Long term exposure to ammonia levels as low as 0.06ppm results in a fish having a suppressed immune system, greater suseptibility to disease, gill & kidney damage, reduction of growth, equilibrium issues and brain malfunction. This has been well researched and documented. Heres just a few links with more information:
