I am going to the beach this week and was wondering if i could put a shell or two from the beach in my tank. Can I do this? And as for cleaning them what would I do?
It's probably not the best thing to bring shells in from the beach, there are tons of pollutants that could be introduced to your tank, copper being one of the. If you really see something you just have to have, you can boil or soak in bleach and then a de-chlor (for the bleach) and let air dry....
Follow-up question: Assuming the seashell is properly cleaned at first, does the hollow space inside pose any trouble, like a place for harmful bacteria to grow out of the way of alge eaters, brushes, water flow, etc?
I guess it could be filled with epoxy to prevent that.
