i am planning on building a 300 gallon reef and i will be tearing my 55gl tank down
will i beable to make a sump out of my 55gl for the 300 to save some money?

Yes, but the bigger the better. The 55 is large enough to hold your skimmer, heaters, pumps and still provide enough room for a fuge.

ok cool and since my current tank is glass i guess i can get some plate glass cut to the sizes i need and make the sump

is there any plans out there for making sumps out of 55 gallon tanks?

You might want to post this question in the DIY forum. 55 gallon tank will make a good sump.

I think you will be better off using the 55g as a refugium and a 100g as a sump.
