Been hatched 3 days. They all died after 2 last batch. Another couple days and they should be swimming.

I think the release of growth hormones into the water is why the daily water changes need to happen

That and the overfeeding crapping up the water, they don't need to be fed until they are free swimming, i wouldn't do anything bigger than 10% for the first couple weeks too

I'll slow the water changes a bit then. Ive been using this liquid fry food but maybe i'll cut that back too

Do they still have little yolk sacs?

So that's what's nourishing them currently, once those are gone they will need 3-4 small feedings daily. As I'm sure you're a very busy man, I am too, once in the morning, once the minute you get in and than once a halfhour before lights out..

Ah this brings me onto my next question. Do they need a set day/night schedule?

I'm not sure about that. I just run the fry tank off my other tanks timer so it's 3 on,4off,4 on..

My fry are doing better this time around brookster. Daily water change and liquid food this time. Im determined to get them to a sellable size!

Ive set up a heated vat type thing in my fish cupboard. Its got an airstone in to gas off the chlorine. Thinking of drilling into the plastic and fitting a tap to it so i can fill bottles for the little 5litre changes on the fry tank

Right for anyone that is interested in finding away to inject root tabs into your substrate. I believe i have come up with a safe, cheap and easy method. I will attempt to explain through text and photos...

You will need...
1 bic biro pen without the ink
1 unused silicone sealant nozzle cut to size of root tab
1 root tab
ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1405188759.021991.jpg

Load tab into silicone nozzle...
ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1405188830.711052.jpg
The tab should fit tightly into the end of the nozzle and not slip through
ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1405188874.648408.jpg
Hold bic biro housing in nozzle
ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1405188909.238430.jpg
Push into substrate at required depth
ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1405188949.453604.jpg
You must hold biro housing into nozzle as it will float away.
To insert tab, hold the biro firm and slowly raise the nozzle up. The nozzle will move up the biro housing at will leave the tab in place in the substrate. The substrate will fill the gap left by the nozzle

Tbc...

Then remove biro housing. The substrate will fill in over tab

I have tried this in my own tank and am yet to have it fail :)

Prob not very interesting but its my way around the problem
