OK guy and gals, I swapped some driftwood on a slate for about 25 lbs of slate for my tank. However i'm not quite sure how to anchor down my slate to put into my tank. Anyone have any ideas? I have several tubes of adhesive and calk. Would that work. Is it something I can pick up at Home Depot or Lowes? I am enclosing a pic of my current setup of my tank. My Africans seem to like it but I do see them hanging around the heater and plants looking for their own place.

I wouldn't anchor it down with anything. I would just build.caves and hiding places with it by setting it on top of escorted at different angles, burying the bottom piece in the sub-straight so when the fish digg it won't shift and crush them.

Yeah, just angle it off each other. Or angle pieces together and use aquarium safe silicone to keep it together.

I see that you have the hollow log decor thing in the center. I have the same thing in my tank, do you like it? I really dont care for mine becUse none of my fish really use it. I bought it because it was on sale for $3. it's been in my tank over a year and starting to turn white. Sorry if I'm off topic here.

Tetra, My cichlids absolutely love the center piece. They all love it and continue to use it. When I first set up my tank ( which i have had now for 2 months ) I made sure all my fish were the same size. By doing this I was able to keep the fighting down to a minimum. Now I do have a Pictus cat and she is the king of the roost. The spot directly under the log in the center is her spot and chases everyone out.
Now granted I did go bigger w/ her for the simple fact I didn't want my Africans to aggravate her to death.

Now with that being said, where can I get aquarium safe silicone? Is that something I can purchase at Home Depo or Lowes???

They should both have it. It should say on the tune of silicon (safe for aquariums).

I started off with barbs of various species and they really made use of that decor. Now the tank is a mixed community and nobody ever really uses it. But my cories and male Bolivian ram do chill under it.
