Why do people still eat fat??? lol thats bad for you yet millions of people walk around stuffing their faces with fat and grease. Imagine all the lives that could be saved if they outlawed over eating :D

Or if you tripped and fell into the tank 8O imagine some 300 pounder going to the front glass!! yeah Id say wed have some fish deaths.

o you think over weight people change their water as often as thin people??

Wow this thread is going way off topic.

How about, instead of focusing on SMOKING we focus on what the real problem is with the tank. I smoke in my living room, my fish are fine, always have been. Perhaps if a room was constantly filled with smoke, and fish lived to be 30, it might have some effect on the fish's health. However, the problem mentioned before

ok facts...

principle components of smoke emitted from cigarettes...
Nicotine
Carbon monoxide
Tar

secondary components include...

Acetone
Ammonia
Arsenic
Benzene
Cadmium
Formaldehyde

well, considering the amounts present in the whole room and their solubility in water, even a small percentage of smoke can cause serious damage in a closed ecosystem...

just conjectures though...need to do more thorough checks...

Those look like compounds or chemicals that can be removed by carbon except for ammonia which is removed by the bio filter. anything in there that cannot be removed by carbon?? that builds up over time and without regular water changes might cause a problem?

Exactly that.

& food for thought...

The smoke is not good for you and definitely not for fish.
Smoke reduces oxygen level in water and in the air.
The smoke is dissolved in water logically it will absorb component of fish and it might make water more
