Good luck with the interview!

Get either one of the tanks, forget the oscars and get discus! They'll love them, may even be able to set it up as a display in the living room or kitchen.

Thanks!
I'm putting the high tech planted in the living room. It's only a little Fluval spec and that was a battle all in its own to get in the living room!
If I was going to get one or the other I would probably see about my room or my parents room.
I also would probably just get an Oscar and red hook silver dollars, cuz that seems to be a generally well liked combo in my parents.

Hey guys, I'm taking fish up to my LFS to trade today. What should I take? I'm definitely getting rid of 30-ish guppy fry, but here's my other choices to take- (they'll take all of them)

2 adult guppies (infertile m/f)
Blue platinum angel with really weird patterning, a bad attitude, and small size
3 peppered cories
2 platies

What should I take? I'll get $1 ish for livebearers and maybe $2 per Cory, $8 for the angel. It's not about money though, I just don't know what to get rid of. My original stock plan was-

2 GBR (I HATE GBR SO MUCH RIGHT NOW, long story)
15 rummynose tetras
10 cories
1 angel

But I'm indecisive and I don't want GBR because GBR hate me... So. What should I get rid of or keep?

I like your stock, get some apistos! What size tank is it?

I'll be doing the same thing in about a months time with killifry although I've been asking around and most places either won't take them or will take them for free....these are $20-$30 fish and they want them for free....

It's a thirty gal- I like the apisto idea! And that's completely ridiculous that they won't even pay a bit for them. How big can you get them before selling? Maybe bring one or two in to show them and then see if they'll take them. $5-$10 is better than nothing, but I'd think that you'd make the most money selling them here or aquabid.

I hate being a teenager.... Just took me 25 min to argue the LFS owner into giving me $8 for 32 inch long guppies! He gave the guy next to me $1 each for guppies barely 1/2 in long. So I went and bought myself 6 RCS and 6 Pygmy cories to breed. I'm going to take all the babies back there with one of my many intimidating relatives and make him pay me fair price of $3 ea for everything I bring. Ugh.

They have to make a profit as well. In bulk guppies are bought at like 10¢ each. It's because they are so plentiful and breed super easily.

Hence why I'm trying killis.

Yeah even a specialist exotic fish store near me wouldn't take them. There's a fish farm that'll take them for $1 each but like they charge ridiculous amounts for their stock that I'd expect more for initial purchase of stock.

I'm trying to raise them till about 2-3cm and sell them. Otherwise I can always sell them as eggs.

I brought them 60 guppies once- with an adult with me- and they paid me $1.50 each even though they had two 55 gal tanks with 300 guppies in each. They had no guppies this time in any of their tanks and they'd only give me $0.25. Difference between the two transactions? I didn't have an adult with me this time.

The LFS here decides if they're a "show/flashy" type guppy or a feeder guppy. They sell plain feeder Guppy's around 15¢ each and fancy types get close to $5 and higher

Liam, 12. Started when I was 5 with balloon mollies and red eyed tetras in a 10.6 gallon. I love these other fish kids and fish teens on here. I am not alone! :)

Who else hates when you walk into a fish store and everyone assumes that you know nothing about fish keeping just because you aren't an adult. Ugh.

OH MY GOD I KNOW. I was at a pet store in the area that was selling some not so quality discus, and I mumbled aloud that the single discus they had left had clamped fins and looked extremely stressed. The 60 year old looking man next to me said "you seem to know a lot about fish". I said yes, and that I considered myself a competent aquarist. And the guy at my good LFS originally tried to explain to me what a species tank was. Now he talks about his shipments to me. Now pretty much all the LFS stores and pet smarts in central Michigan know me.

We should get this thread going again...

Money Can't Buy Happiness, But It Can Buy Fish Which Is Pretty Much The Same Thing

I'm Chase, from Indiana. I am a 15 year old aquarist with a many tanks for selectively breeding guppies, and a 75 gallon medium light low tech planted community

I'm Keegan, I'm 17 years old and I'm from Indiana, and I am an addict..... I started when I was 10 and couldn't stop buying more tanks! I have a 20 gal community, 20 gal darter tank, a 10gal ocellatus pair, 1 gal blackworm tank, a 5 gal that I am currently restarting as a nano reef, and I am currently starting a 55 gallon tang community tank.
