Hi!
I started up my 5 gallon fluval spec and I had no idea about needing to cycle fish tanks at all. However I am in the process of cycling it or attempting to with the TETRA safestart bacteria as I've heard a lot of good reviews on it.
I purchased a safestart bottle for 15gallon tanks and plopped it all in 2 days after i treated the water with prime and the instructions say to not change water for 2 weeks and also says to add fish in within 2 hours after adding tetra safestart. Which I did.
I added two oto catfish and I do have a API freshwater master test kit and I just tested my water just now and the ammonia reads 0.25ppm. But what concerns me is the really high nitrites and nitrates.
Nitrites read : 2.0 or 5.0ppm the colors look the same on the chart
Nitrates: 40 or 80ppm colors look the same.
I'm kind of worried for the fish since the readings are so high! What should I do? I tried looking for answers here and there and was conflicted since I did add tetra safestart into the occasion.
Thank you all!
