Type of algae

Looks like it. You can physically remove it with your hands but try to get it all to make sure it won't grow anymore. Some hermits will eat it as will some other crabs. Good luck in getting rid of it but remember algae generally only grows when something in your water is off.
 
Thanks I thought it was. Nitrates are a little high. I've just changed my filters in my RO unit but it's still showing around 15ppm straight from the filter :-/ it's been growing since I upgraded my lights and I'm struggling to get rid :-(

Id say if your tank can survive a blackout time you should go ahead and give it a few days. Also make sure that you dont have the tank in actual daylight.
