What's your current stock? Are you planning on adding anything else?

I am just cycling a tank myself for discus and finding it hard to remain patient!

How are the loaches with the discus? I've heard mixed reactions to any botia species with discus.

The loaches are very active at times but it doesn't seem to bother the discus. No aggression at all so far.

The current stock is
5 X Discus
19 x Black Neon Tetras
5 X Sterbai Corys
2 x Polkadot Loaches

Think I'll keep it at that for the time being. Maybe a golden nugget pleco after a while.

I hate that waiting game but at least it gives you time to get the homework done.

That's good news to hear. I'm wary of mixing the two but it's nice to hear a good news story about them being together. I've seen some of the bigger botia species attack discus(slime coat) pretty bad.

It was sold to me as a marlboro red from a very reliable discus specialist.

Do you not agree?
What's your experience with discus? I would be interested to hear your opinion. Thanks.

You could be very much correct! Mine was sold to me as such as well but when I looked it up it just seemed to look more like a red melon to me and our lfs friend agreed but it nay very well be a Marlboro, I've had more experience with blue diamonds and pigeon bloods.

I know what you mean, to be honest I don't think there is a lot of difference between the two. I have looked on google images and I have a few discus books and they do look like what is marked as marlboro red. It's hard to tell as they do seem to be called other names on some websites. I payed for malboro reds so that's what I'm going to say they are lol.

That's a tricky call to make about red melon or not, to me a true red marlboro is bright red body and bold white face. Yours looks almost like a tangerine discus more so than a melon. There is a small chance it is a marlboro and it hasn't reached it's true colors yet but I'm leaning the other direction. But whatever he is we know he is a beautiful happy discus and that's what matters!:)

Yea it's a tough one. To be honest I don't mind either way. They are really nice looking fish and complement the tank nicely. They seem really happy and as you rightly say that's the main thing.
What sort of discus do you have?

Here are some off my discus that I have in my tank. Hope you like them. They seem to be doing well. I will try and get a pic of the GN when he stays still long enough lol.

What kind is the first Discus?

The first pic is of one of my pigeon blood discus. His colours have come out so well as he has grown. He's doing really well as are the others. I'm a happy man. ;-)

At my lfs there isn't much discus to choose from :/

Yea I have the same problem, we have quite a few lfs but they don't tend to stock many discus. I have to drive round the county to find them. I have spent hours phoning fish shops to see if they have any. Before traveling to go and see them. But I have a friend who is as mad as me on fish so we see it as a day out to look at fish. My partner comes with us and we have a laugh on the way so it's all good.

I have never tried breeding discus before, I might have a go when or if any of my discus pair up. My tank is More of a show tank to be honest.
Can you post a pic of your malboro reds so I can compare them to mine please? Someone said mine look more like red melons it I'm not convinced.

i have ALWAYS seen rummynose tetras do well with discus.

German blue rams and severums are also good choices.
