Another surprise! I returned the moonlight to my LFS. I couldn't find a low-profile way to mount it, so I'm buying a strip that will fit well in the light fixture like I initially planned to. But my LFS only does store credit and there wasn't a whole lot of useful, well-priced supplies there so I got this instead...

It's living in Corey's tank until mine cycles. Normally I don't like this sort of unplanned stuff, but it worked out fine. :) The coloration in the picture is off a bit. (They're pink.) And I'm sure it'll look better under my lighting. ;)

Looks pretty nice! and I'm sure they are a lot more colorful in person, i can never get the colors of my corals to pop in pictures like they do in person, maybe i need a better camera.

A non-tank update to explain my lack of tank updates:
Two reasons for not updating/doing anything with my tank:
-Busy
-Feel like poopy.
If you're bothering to read a non-tank update I might as well explain both; You might actually care!
For feeling like poopy: I've never been "healthy." Nothing to complain about but just one of those people. Recently my "nothing to complain about" stomach problems have become plenty to complain about. It used to be an occasional occurrence but it seems to be daily recently. There are things I need to do before I start cycling: break up live rock, get RO/DI water. Every time I want to do them, my stomach holds me back.
For being busy: In the spare time that my stomach doesn't hurt  I'm busy. Not only am I in my senior year, but I'm actually trying to be productive and not have senioritis. So besides normal school and senior activities I move in 2 months to go to college. I'm trying to weed out what I'm taking and what I'm not, and pack some.

So, I'm sorry I've been lacking on updating, if anyone has noticed. And I'm sorry if you didn't care to hear all that. ;) I just know it bugs me when people are MIA in the middle of their build threads, so I felt the need to explain. I'm definitely going to at least start cycling by the end of the weekend. I'm also ordering a new moonlight.

Looking forward to this! I also started a tank when I first moved into college in August. Its real nice to have around. Only problem is my campus shuts off power during holiday breaks so I had to pack it up and bring it with me. I decided to just leave it home.

What lights are you using? It looks like it has the Current USA Nova Extreme PRO body but you said there was only 2x18watt bulbs. Is it the standard Nova Extreme SLR?

It's the normal Current USA Nova Extreme (not Pro). Pro has 6, regular has 2. I have the older one with a molded reflector; It mimics single-reflectors, but isn't quite single.
Luckily I'm not staying in a dorm cause I've got two other pets I'm bringing along with me that I can't keep in the dorm: my boyfriend and my dog; So I don't have to worry about that.

That's good to hear. I'm required to stay in the campus dorms for my first two years. So that's a no go for nano tanks. All I can do is stock up equipment for my next tank for my 3rd year of college when I get an apartment, which is when I plan on starting a build thread.

Looking forward on your nano! I don't think anyone here gave their input on your stocking list, but I would go with the 3 sexy shrimp! It's a small tank but can be quite fun to watch when you keep things small, i.e. sexy shrimp, watching various bugs and critters, coral gazing. That's the route I went with my 3 gallon and I love it.

Sorry for this being off topic but your stomach. Have you checked yourself for food allergies or lactose issues? I noticed that my wife got stomach aches allot and after watching her eating habits I noticed she was sensitive to milk products. Come to find out she is mildly lactose intolerant and when she eats milk products she gets stomach issues. She had never noticed this herself. Sometimes it takes monitoring your food intake and stomach pain levels to find the link. Some people can even have issues with wheat products. Even if you have something else it wouldn’t hurt to make sure you don’t have this issue. It is one of the most undignosed health issues in the country.
Oh and my wife likes Ice cream so much she still gets some even if it causes her discomfort. She does take a pill that helps.

Nice tank and best of luck at school my daughter starts college this year also!

I wish it were that simple. I've kept food diaries, it's never the same food. I'm seeing a specialist. He has ideas but he's not entirely sure yet.
Thank you very much. :)

So a tank update:
The impeller on my Aquaclear broke. :bawl: Sand got in and damaged it. The impeller shaft got stuck in the impeller; it's supposed to stay attached to the motor. I eventually pried the impeller shaft out and pushed it back into the motor, but it still doesn't work. I guess the sand scratched it up too much. :???: I've got an Aquaclear 20 laying around, so I suppose I'll use it's motor for now.. I'm still debating whether or not I'm going to replace it. I kinda wanted to start up my Edge as well and plant it (and that's what the AC 20 goes to), but maybe this is a sign I shouldn't? I don't know.. Anyway, Corey was very kind and ordered me 2 bags of Black Estes Reef sand when he ordered his new sand, so I'm going to wait until I switch to that to start running the AC. Wouldn't want to break it again. I decided to switch to black sand because my tank is kind of frighteningly white. And everything looks soooo nice with a black background, black sand, and blue leds. :drinking:
Speaking of blue leds: I ordered my moonlight. It's just a blue car strip, from Oznium. It shipped yesterday.
I was hoping to start cycling this weekend, but with the AC kickin' the bucket, I guess I'll wait.. :???:

Might sound off the wall but you should ask your doctor about a hernia. I had mild stomach pains on and off then sometimes real bad at nights but I always brushed it off because it would go away. One day I was tired of feeling like a bum because of my stomach so I told the doctor I needed a answer now! Long story short they found a baby little hernia on my pelvis which was pushing in Causing bowl obstruction meaning nausea and stomach cramps. The weird thing is you get no pain from this type of hernia so you have no idea it's there.
Just an idea sorry to babble on, I just know how these little stomach pains can ruin a whole day.

So I'm getting really busy/stressed with SIX weeks until graduation (amongst other things) which is making me sicker (yay), so I haven't gotten a chance/felt well enough to do a break-down to put the sand in. But it is here, and I ordered the new impeller/shaft today. I didn't put pics of the moonlight in, so I'll have to do that. Anyway, I'm in the process of resurrecting my Fluval Edge so I'm kind of freaking out about money so I'm doing a running total on both builds to put it in perspective for myself and for those who are curious. Some are estimates.

Tank: $47
Rock: $30?
Nanomag: $10
Powerhead: $30
Light: $55
Moonlight: $20
Aquaclear: $30
Impeller *grumblegrumble*: $18
Sand: $6
Heater/Therm.: $40 (I personally don't count this as it was from an old tank, but I thought I'd include it anyway)
-----------
Total: $286

Sorry for all the delays, btw. Here's the moonlight:
