Water Condition

I seem to have something at the surface of my water...it looks like a sort of oil slick. Anyone know what this is?

Most likely a build up of organic scum at the surface. A protein skimmer or surface skimmer would definitely help. You could also try pointing powerheads at the surface to break it up.

I would also watch your feeding. Make sure all of the food is being consumed and not floating to the bottom or being sucked into a filter. If feeding frozen food, be sure not to pour any liquid from the food into your tank. HTH

if you can't break up the surface as suggested above, I've heard of people using undyed paper towels for this in a pinch.
