I am sorry i can't answer alot of them. I have kept a snail tank before with no plants, no filter or heater, and PWC once a month. This might sound bad, but i never lost a single snail, and they were just stow away snails that came with some plants. They bred like crazy!!!, about 15 grew into over 100 in about a month or less. I just dropped a algea disc in every night, it was gone in the morning.

I only have specific knowledge of apple snails (pomocea), so here's what I have to offer:

I can't say about other species, but apple snails have been known to eat other dead apple snails.

7. will a snail crawl out of it's tank?

Many apple snail species deposit their eggs above the waterline in a calcareous clutch.

10. can a snail mate with it's self?

Many snail species are hermaphroditic, Apple snails are not. They are gonochoristic and require a male and female to reproduce.
