If I have my tank in front of a window will a Black Poster board background (which will block the sunlight) keep the light from causing algae in my tank???

You'll still have some algae, but everyone does. I would think that it would surely cut down on the amount caused by sunlight, though.

I use cardboard (from a cereal box) to block the light from a nearby window from entering the filter. It was getting a growth of filmy algae. I just checked it and it seems to be working well.
And if you were wondering, the leveling part of the filter broke off so a short length of PVC pipe and double sided tape is in its place.
