Was watching a MASH rerun yesterday... a soldier had to be put in teh hospital next to an enemy he'd personally shot... at the end of his hospital stay, he was sick with regret. The comment came, "I think there should be a rule in war that you have to get to know someone up close and personal before you can shoot them."
Wonder if this might hold true to animals, too. On the other hand, my mother worked on a farm, and she's never squirmed from eating any animal...
