I have a total of 7 canister filters. Regardless of how well I cleaned (or didn't clean) the filters, when I turned them on I got that initial burst of sludge from the return. I know it's no big deal, and clears right up. But it drove me crazy. So I stole a couple of pairs of my wife's knee high panty hose, rinsed them out real good and I rubber band them to the return nozzles before I turn the pumps back on. Works like a champ. After about a minute I slip the hose off, drain it real slow, turn it inside out and rinse it out for the next time. I have 2 tanks with white sand substrate, and it's nice not to have stuff settle back down to the bottom right after I vaccum. Does anyoeone else do something like that?

Good idea, I had that problem also, but flow was to great for my tank so I sold mine.

Great idea though!
