It shouldn't take too long to see good results in my opinion the very clean water helps the most just do your daily water changes like we said and you will see a noticeable change very soon. My tiger Oscar injured himself in his tank (he gets very rough sometimes) at night I can hear him rearranging his tank. He had a really big flesh wound one morning and it really scared me! There's a massive piece of driftwood and I think he somehow took a chunk out of his flesh on that but I'm not really sure. I did daily water changes with prime and treated the water with Melafix and it healed real nicely, even though there's a scar. It will be a few weeks to a month before his tail grows back completely but you should see some growth in a week. :)
