Fishless cycle

Hi everyone, I have just purchased a 15 gallon tank and an aqueon 20 gallon HOB filter. I am at a total loss on how to do a cycle without fish (this is my first tank other than red cherry shrimp tanks).I am planning on adding dwarf puffer fish when done cycling. What do I need to cycle the tank? I have some java moss currently in the tank as well. Should I do water changes during the cycle? Should I replace the filter cartridge during the cycle? Do I need to add anything to make it cycle or will it do it on it's own? When the tank finishes it's cycle do I replace the filter cartridges and will that reverse the cycle? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance! -Alex
