Does anyone know what type of driftwood this is? I got it by a lake the other day. The pics taken outside are the original look before and during scrubbing/power sprayed of loose debri (s). Pictures taken inside are after being boiled for some hours....

I can't say exactly ... but they do look great. You really just want to avoid softwood .. like pine trees. Those to me look like they're from hardwood ... I'd say they're safe judging by what I see.

Almost looks like manzanita, but I can't be positive what region of the country are you in that might help us identify the wood.

Could very well be manzanita then it's a real good find if it is I have paid almost 20 bucks a pound for that stuff here in Florida

Can't really tell exactly what type it is, but can tell it is hardwood & pretty aged. Those will make some very nice driftwwood. When you boil them, they may sink right off the bat. Congratulations!! Those are some really nice looking pieces!!

Those will make some nice DW pieces ... Give them a good boil just to make sure any unwanted microbes are taken care of? Do they sink? If so you just saved yourself some $$$. Pieces like that at some LFS around me can cost you a pretty penny.

If they still float, tie / anchor them down till they water log ... with way they look like a nice catch.(y)

:thanks:Ok, I been boiling since i got them and still seeing tea like water (tannin release) so I am going to continue to boil till its either really light or gone, then will let them cool, then place....Originally, they would float once the pot was 90% full of water, I boiled for several hours, let sit in hot water all night, woke up next morning and they both were touching bottom of pot, filled pot with fresh water to top, they still hit the bottom of pot, so I am assuming they will stay sunk in place but I won't know till they are placed since the depths of the pot and aquarium are drastically different (if that influences it all)

Here is an update: I finally have placed my first 2 DW pieces....but my main centerpiece will be awhile...really big
