I have two tanks a 38 gallon tank w/ 6 small platy and tetra in it, and a ten gallon which is empty (i just set it up im getting it ready to put fish in) I was wondering wether i could put these six fish into the small tank and buy new fish and put them in the large. Will this be a bad idea considering the fish are used to such a large tank that if i put them in the 10 gal. tank they wil be stressed out.

They'd probably be okay as long as you keep up with your water parameters. I've got six platy in a 12 gallon with a pitbull pleco and they don't seem cramped for space. They swim in the filter current and seem happy.

You will be okay as long as you have a plan for the fry that will be produced by the platies! How many platies/tetras?
What do you want to put in the 38 gal?
