Mosaic Gar?

In my area there are 4 places that have fish, They are wal-mart, petco, james tropical fish (best of the 4), and animal house. Animal house is a small town pet store and upon going through and looking at the fish I noticed they had a "mosaic gar" for sale. About 4 inches long, black stripe throughout the body and off white for the rest. After trying to research gars online I have found nothing about these fish in the aquarium trade except for monster ones that are like 2 ft long. Can anyone help me out with some info on this sucker?

I thought all Gar are pretty big.

I was picking up some ghost shrimp from Wal-Mart and I noticed there was a baby (2.5" long) Gar in one of their tanks...I don't think they know what it is.
