I'm not a big fan of barbs for some reason. I really like Mollies, platties, swordfish, guppies, tetras, danios etc. I'm trying to get the lighting down before I proceed too much further.

I think you are definitely on the right track my friend. Sounds like you got everything pretty close to under control. Those planted guys in the FW planted forum will get you hooked up real nice. They all are very knowledgeable. Good luck.
