Salty wood

I'm going on vacation soon. I remember last year i saw a sweet tree looking driftwood on the beach. But, I didn't take it home. Anyways, I was wondering if I found a nice piece like that again this year, would it be possible to use in my freshwater aquarium? Or would the possible salt content ruin that?

Ik the type of wood is important, but I had no idea what type it was. But it's out at the outer banks in NC. Idk if that helps.
